Juan Juan Hu interests in jewelry design include the application of traditional culture in contemporary jewelry, combination of jewelry design and cultural industry, research and application of morphological semantics and emotion in jewelry design, and study on the variability of jewelry function. While teaching jewelry design and product design in University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST), She also runs Juan Juan Jewelry Design Studio in Shanghai. During the design teaching in the university, Juan Juan Hu has made achievements in design theory research, establishment of school and enterprise project cooperation, and cultivation of new generation of design talents. Her study of design theory mainly is focused on the theory of "morphological semantic design", involving the application of semantics to the field of morphological design, and analysis of the elements and methods of form design to spark form creativity. It is the basic theory of form design. In jewelry design, product design and other design fields, the design of three-dimensional form is very critical. Form are closely related with both material and technology. Therefore, the book can be used as the theoretical basis of form design in jewelry design and product design in China. This theoretical research is of guiding significance for the form creative design of jewelry design, product design and other majors. Related theoretical research achievements are mainly reflected in the book titled Design Morphology Semantics and other papers. Since its publication in 2005 by Chemical Industry Press, the book has been used as basic design textbook at some colleges in China. In 2012, Juan Juan Hu set up Juan Juan Jewelry Design Studio in Shanghai. Her efforts are focused on the application of design theory in design projects. The projects are not only artistic bespoke jewelry, but also cooperation with enterprises, such as design jewelry projects for the Forbidden City Culture Development Co., Ltd.; research on wearable devices and voice-controlled digital products in cooperation with UI Department in Samsung (China); Design commercial jewelry collections for Shangxia invested by Hermes, MINGR Jewelry company etc. Juan Juan Hu has won numerous design awards, such as Red Dot Award, first prize of in the third Auditions China Gold Imagination Gold Jewelry Design Competition and so on. Lipstick
The design is inspired by the Love Lock in traditional Chinese culture. The Love Lock is an artifact wielded by the legendary Matchmaking God in China. This product is designed by the inspiration of the Love Lock in Chinese traditional culture, used as a lipstick and jewelry. It carries countless people’s longing for love, meaning that love is as heavy as gold and two hearts are locked together forever. As a lipstick, Press the button and the lipstick pops out, simple and practical. As jewelry, the removable pure gold feather on the lid is not only a brooch but also a pendant with a chain.

Face Powder
The design is the Florasis brand's impression of the Dai minority culture and inheritance in China. The peacock is a symbol of auspiciousness, beauty, and happiness in the eyes of the Dai people. A gold peacock is embedded on this face powder compact’s dark green window with a decorative frame. The lid of this product adopts gold filigree, an ancient traditional Chinese handcraft. Pure gold is made into about 0.2mm filaments. The gold peacock on the lid can be removable and as a brooch to wear. This work functions as both a face powder compact and a piece of jewelry.

Good Fortune Gourd collection is a creative combination of Chinese good meaning, multiple wearing manner and new industrial technology. "Gourd" is a homophone for "Good Fortune" in Chinese. Unique style of the gourd shape for this jewelry series lies in the "Good Fortune" hidden in the gourd and the design of the abstract and enjoyable curves closely follows the shape of two Chinese characters of "Big Fortune". 3D printing technology is used in this 18k gold series, and it can greatly improve efficiency of the jewelry processing workshop.

Jade Fun aims to create interaction between wearers and jades. There have two wearing statuses for each piece of jewelry, with the jade, and without the jade, as the wearer like. Each jade is carved by hands. It is a typical Chinese safety buckle shape, implying peace and auspiciousness, with a hole in the middle of the buckle. In the center of each hole, the designer has designed an 18k gold rivet structure, allowing for free rotation to take the jade out. So each jade jewelry is designed in a screw structure that can be removed, and the wearer can take out and put in each jade freely.

Tangram collection presents flexible manners of wearing. The inspiration comes from Tangram. It’s made of seven single pendants and chain accessories. Every single pendant could be worn as a single part, and could be connected to variable pendant forms by chain accessories. The collection has variability in function and flexibility in combination. The designer has created the interaction between jewelry pieces and wearers. The industrial technology of 3D printing and the enamel handcraft are integrated in this collection. It's a combination of industrial technology and handcraft.
